During the deadly public health emergency of COVID-19, the need for affordable housing has been at its highest throughout the State of Connecticut. Our goal is to develop and build new affordable housing apartments to prevent homelessness to the low income disabled, elderly and family residents. We also host many home ownership initiatives as Urban Concepts is well aware, that the end to the wealth gap with in our country is founded in home ownership opportunities. An important focus to our team is on housing members of our community that are transitioning from incarceration, just dealing with life's changes being able to secure housing opportunities.
As a nonpartisan nonprofit group, Urban Concepts understands the power of the American democracy, by working tirelessly to expand voting opportunities to the black and brown community. Urban Concepts is dedicated to educating the community on the election process, including running for elected office, and community organizing.
Food justice is an important part of community justice. We take donations from local businesses and use them to fight hunger. Help us connect with donors and with people in need.
The last Monday of each month, we unite the CT communities of color, through a zoom conference. This is a safe and open space to speak freely about living through the economic and social oppression here in our state. During these conversations, we network and mobilize our teams of volunteers to make a real difference in our community. Join us monthly and see what can be accomplished when you get an impassioned team to focus on change.
Our community is full of people who want to help. We work to help the people providing services with the people who need them. Come connect with people in new ways.
During this historic pandemic - public health crisis, we are steadily working to coordinate services for CT's low income community to assist with food insecurity, access to emergency housing, healthcare, etc. The low income community is extremely income sensitive, with the loss of wages and limited unemployment, the need continues to be severe.
